Prijzen fotografieopdracht NAi uitgereikt
Maarten van Schaik ontving op 23 maart de eerste prijs van de NAi/ Ballast Nedam Fotografieopdracht GebouwGezichten. Dieuwertje Komen kreeg de tweede prijs en Niels Stomps de derde prijs. Elco Brinkman, voorzitter van Bouwend Nederland, reikte de prijzen van 5.000, 3.000 en 2.000 euro uit tijdens de opening van de tentoonstelling GebouwGezichten in het NAi.

Dixons gaat fotografiecursusssen verkopen
Winkelketen Dixons gaat LOI-cursussen in zijn assortiment opnemen. Het betreft opleidingen die een verband hebben met het aanbod van produkten in de winkels. Dat meldt Dixons in een persbericht. Het gaat bijvoorbeeld om een cursussen digitale fotografie en beeldbewerking. Klanten krijgen bij Dixons 10 procent korting op de normale LOI-prijs. De cursussen duren tussen de twee en negen maanden.

Geen kaarten meer beschikbaar voor Nachtwey-interview
Op donderdag 29 maart vindt om 19.00 uur in FOAM de officiële opening plaats van de tentoonstelling Testimony van de Amerikaanse fotojournalist James Nachtwey, één van de invloedrijkste fotojournalisten van deze tijd en twee keer winnaar de ‘World Press Photo of the Year’.
Voorafgaand aan de opening van deze unieke tentoonstelling, zal om 17.30 uur een tweegesprek plaatsvinden tussen Nachtwey en Mark Blaisse. Dit is een zeldzame mogelijkheid om de fotograaf zelf te horen spreken over zijn ervaringen in crisisgebieden waaronder het Midden-Oosten, Rwanda, Afghanistan en Bosnië.
NB: Kaarten voor het bijwonen van het interview zijn niet meer beschikbaar.

Time for Primes!
In een artikel in The New York Times stellen medewerkers van Nikon en Canon vandaag dat zoom-objectieven dan wel populair en wijdverbreid mogen zijn, maar dat objectieven met een vast brandpunt nog altijd de beste kwaliteit bieden:
Although the zoom lens now reigns, nearly every lens maker still offers fixed focal length, or prime, lenses.
“Prime lenses provide the highest optical quality you can get,” said Chuck Westfall, a technology spokesman for Canon in the United States. “They are the benchmark.”
While optical differences between primes and zooms can sometimes be lost on nonprofessionals, primes do have other benefits. Many have large maximum openings that allow indoor photography without flash, and they can be more compact than a zoom.
In some cases, being the ultimate in optics does not come with a correspondingly high price. Mr. Heiner (Nikon) said he often recommended that amateur users supplemented the zoom that came with their camera with a 50-millimeter f1.8 lens, the kind of prime lens that was once shipped with most film cameras. Not only is it one of Nikon’s best optical designs, he said, but “at about $100, it’s also our best value.”

Wouter Bos boos om foto's
Vicepremier Wouter Bos overweegt roddelblad Weekend aan te klagen. Het blad plaatste deze week een grote foto van de politicus en zijn dochtertje Iris op de voorpagina. Bos is van mening dat het blad geen recht heeft foto's van zijn kinderen te publiceren, zo meldt RTL Boulevard dinsdag.
In het wekelijkse tijdschrift staan meerdere foto's, waarop zowel de 2-jarige Iris als het andere dochtertje van Bos, de 1-jarige Jula, duidelijk te zien zijn.

Time met foto's van vier jaar Irak-oorlog
Naar aanleiding van het feit dat de oorlog in Irak vandaag vier jaar geleden is begonnen, besteeds het Amerikaanse weekblad TIME veel aandacht aan de foto's die tijdens het conflict zijn gemaakt. Het toont de onvoltooide geschiedenis van de oorlog in een reeks van 49 foto's (één per kalendermaand).

Patrick Baz: beroemd met de verkeerde foto
Fotograaf Patrick Baz (AFP) vertelt vandaag in The Guardian over zijn foto van het begin van de Irak-oorlog op 20 maart 2003. De foto haalde veel voorpagina's, maar zelf is hij er allesbehalve tevreden over.
I am annoyed that I am so well known for this one picture, because, as a photograph, it's crap. It's just a ball of fire in the sky; anyone with a camera could have taken that. I was just in the right place, at the right moment. After I took the picture I had no idea how important it was. At first I didn't even send it. I waited for about 45 minutes, thinking I might be able to get a better one. In the end I thought, 'Maybe I can get the US east coast deadlines if I send this,' so I did. The next day I had no idea what had happened until the head of another news agency in Baghdad said to me: 'What have you done? Your picture is everywhere.' Then I started getting calls from Paris saying the picture was on the front page of just about every newspaper in the US. I have been a photographer for 25 years, and there are many, many other pictures I am much more proud of. But this will always be the famous one.

This year 2007 the Association des Femmes Journalistes (the Association of Women Journalists), an organisation promoting women in the media, wish to give a female photojournalist an award of 8000 Euros.
The Female Photojournalist Award granted by the AFJ is presented to a female photojournalist in activity who wishes to cover a social, economic, political or cultural subject in a journalistic manner. The Award will be given to an individual photojournalist and not to a group, without any consideration of her nationality.
The Award is given in order to allow the winner to carry out the photo-reportage which has been presented for the Award.
Entry is free. The application dossier must be postmarked no later than May 31th 2007 and must be sent without acknowledgement of receipt to the following address :
